I recently came across a recipe from the Doterra Blog that I decided to try - DIY Hand Soap with essential oils. It was so easy to make (after I purchased my ingredients it took about 2 minutes total - can't really complain about that), it was inexpensive and I LOVED the soap. I liked it so much I made another batch tonight using Doterra On Guard (one of my personal favorites) and Peppermint oil.
On Guard is a blend of cinnamon, clove bud, eucalyptus, wild orange and rosemary. It can be used to address issues concerning bacteria, immune system, mold, virus' and can be used among other things, as a topical disinfectant.
On Guard is used daily in our house, and since we have begun using it faithfully we have cut back on illnesses that run through our house. As those close to me know my girls get sick a lot, and I use to get everything they came down with - a horrible, repeating cycle. The illnesses are now shorter, and not as often. And lucky me, I don't get half of what they get. Learn more about On Guard HERE.
Peppermint oil is used for a variety of health conditions and can be taken orally in dietary supplements or topically as a skin cream or ointment. The benefits are endless (it seems), so in an effort to keep this post short, you can read more about peppermint oil HERE and HERE.
Okay, back to the DIY hand soap by Doterra...
- 2 tablespoons unscented liquid castile soap (You can find it in some grocery stores, but if not you can always find it at a health food store)
- 1/4 teaspoon Fractionated Coconut oil (Buy at a health food store, or on-line)
- 10 drops essential oils of choice (Adjust as needed. If the smell is too strong lessen the amount. Or add a few extra drops if you like it a bit stronger. When I use peppermint I do less, when I use lemon or wild orange I use more. Play around with the oils, and make the soap your own.)
- In this recipe Doterra used five drops of Peppermint and five drops of Melaleuca essential oil. I used 10 On Guard drops and 4 Peppermint drops.
- Water
- 8oz. foaming pump bottle (Use an old bottle from your previous soap, or buy a new one - whatever you want that makes it easy for you. I used my old bottle which is just a clear bottle like the one in the picture.)
Directions:
1. Pour castile soap and Fractionated Coconut Oil (FCO) into bottle.
2. Add essential oils.
3. Slowly add water into bottle ~ making sure to leave room for the foaming pump.
4. Add lid and shake.
5. When ready to use, just pump into hands and wash with warm water.
