What does “going or living green” mean?

For some of us it means composting every scrap of a leftover lunch, cloth diapering, and making organic baby food from scratch. For others, it’s about using only non-toxic chemicals in our homes and recycling. For some of us it is eating only organic food. And for others it’s somewhere in between. Regardless where you fit in the ‘going green’ lifestyle, we just want to spread awareness on what our choices make on the Earth.  

There is no judgement here at Happy Green Baby! We recoginize the need for everyone to do things in a way that works for themselves and their own family. We are just happy you are here, and hope we can provide a few tips on how to make living a green life easier.

Raising children can pose a whole new series of challenges for eco-conscious people. Your new little bundle of joy requires a lot of stuff (diapers, clothes, bottles, crib bedding, nursery furniture, towels, bubble bath, more diapers). As your children grow so does the collection of “stuff” filling up your home. So how do you not become some sort of crazed consumer, filling every room of your home with all the baby (and kid) stuff (you don’t need) that’s bad for you, baby and the earth? How do you handle the less than earth friendly gifts you get by friends and family, who mean well but don’t have your passion for a non-toxic lifestyle? These are some of the questions we are trying to answer for you (as well as ourselves).

Our Review

Fantastic! Wish I had these earlier in the year while gardening everyday. They are well made, with quality material, and feel strong - not like they will break any time soon. They aren't too heavy and/or awkward to use while trimming branches off my roses. I love that they are stainless steal, they make smooth cuts when trimming plants, and they will last longer than other cheap brands. They have a lifetime warranty, so you have nothing to lose by trying them, and I think you will really like them. At the time of this review they were at great price too, especially for a set of two. Ordering was easy and shipping was fast.

Our Review

We were asked to review the Advanced Remote Dog Training Collar, along with the 2nd training collar, in exchange for an honest review. Being we have two dogs, and our current training collar is no longer working, I was excited to try out a new training collar. The huge benefit of this particular collar choice is the range goes up to 800 yards, and you can train 2 dogs at the same time if you purchase the second collar. This is a huge plus!! With this training collar you can use manual mode, or automatic mode. Manual mode works with handset and you get to choose the level of correction that you are comfortable with for your dog. Automatic mode works as a bark control collar in either vibration collar mode or shock collar mode. The handset and collar are waterproof and rechargeable, however, I have not had the opportunity to test out the waterproof feature. I do appreciate that everything is rechargeable; no more wasted batteries!

There are a few things I don't really care for in this product. For the price I didn't really love the collar material, and feel like it could be a bit nicer. The handset has some nice features, such as the backlight for nighttime use, but I don't care for the fact there is no way to attached it to anything. You have to hold it at all times unlike my other one that I had as it was on a lanyard so you could hang it around your neck. I also feel like with all the buttons the same size, and all next to each other, you need to be extra careful to not hit the wrong button. Pushing the wrong button you could increase the shock without realizing it, and you could shock when you only want to use the vibrate mode, etc. I really feel like the remote could have been made a bit better. Also the directions in the small manual didn't quite match up to the actual handset in the box, and that always annoys me.

Overall it's a nice product, with some great features, but there is room for improvement in my opinion. We ordered our collars from Amazon; ordering was easy and shipping was fast.

Product Review: Heavy Bass In Ear Earbuds Headphones with Mic

Our Review

We were asked to review the Heavy Bass, Earbud Headphones with Mic in exchange for an honest review.

We ordered our set from Amazon; ordering was easy, and shipping was fast. The sound is great, and much better than the your basic headphones, with a clear crisp sound. They appear to be durable, but I have only had them a short time, so I can't really speak to how long they will last. They come with 3 different sizes of ear buds making it easy for most people to use them. I do say most, as the earbuds are a little big for my ears. If you know you have trouble finding earbuds small enough for you, this is probably not the set for you. However, with 3 different sizes most people should be able to get them to fit their ear comfortably. The built-in microphone for phone calls is a nice feature, and I really like the pause/play button. The company offers a 2 year warranty. If you are in the market for a new set of earbuds, I say give them a try.

Our Review

LOVE IT! When HappyGreenBaby.com was asked to review the Bright Outdoors Picnic Set for 2 I was pretty sure I would like it, however, I was not expecting to like it as much as I do. The compact size is fabulous! I have had several different styles of picnic baskets over the years, but I really never used them due to the size, and bulk of them. This set is slim and sleek, making it easy to leave this set in the car without it taking up much space. I love eating at the park with my girls during the summer, and pulling this out on a last minute picnic would make it extra special for them. The only item really missing is cups/glasses, but since you will not be packing food in it you can take care of drink cups when planning your food.

Now, as much as I like the picnic set, there is room for improvement. I would give the set a higher rating if the plates were made of a healthier plastic choice. We try to avoid plastics at home, and although we know there is a time and place for plastic, it would have made this set almost perfect had a better plastic choice been used. Also, it does say they are dishwasher safe, but being they are not made of a better plastic I would only hand wash them. Same with the silverware - not 100% they will hold up over time in a dishwasher.

This would make a nice gift, something to keep in mind for the next gift-giving occasion. Another great thing to mention is the guarantee offered by the company, If you're not completely satisfied with your purchase simply let them know and you'll be offered a full refund or replacement. Our Review

This is a sweet gift for any Mother to give to their daughter. The necklace is a perfect size for a little girl. The pendants are made of pewter, and the the chains are stainless steel. I haven't owned them long enough to know how they will hold up over time, but I do know that with all jewelry it will last longer, and not tarnish, if you keep it away from moisture, including lotions/creams and perfume. If you are looking for a special gift for you daughter for a birthday or Christmas, I recommend the Tree of Life, Mother Daughter Necklace. If you didn't give it with the card that says Mother Daughter on it you could give it to anyone as a gift-- maybe to two sisters, or even best friends. Our Review

We were asked to do a review of the NYB Peppermint Essential Oil and we were happy to do so, as we use a lot of essential oils in our home and believe in their therapeutic abilities.

Peppermint Essential Oil is ideal for topical applications and aromatherapy, but it should only be used externally. If you plan to use it as a topical application you MUST dilute it with a carrier oil, such as fractionated coconut oil (FCO).

According to the manufacture their oil is 100% Pure Peppermint Essential Oil, is a therapeutic-grade, containing no additives or fillers. After doing research I couldn't find any information that stated otherwise. All of these features are important to our family as we try hard to limit the use of all the chemicals that are placed into household products.

I love glass bottle and dropper that comes with it, as the glass dropper makes it easy to transfer oil into small bottles for traveling, and for using the oil when making your own recipes.

I use a lot of essential oils in our home, and believe in their therapeutic properties. I love peppermint oil, not only does it smell great, it has so many uses - from helping with digestion, freshening your breathe, and repelling spiders - the possibilities are endless. This Peppermint Essential Oil is refreshing, and holds its scent with a clean smell.

A few ways I use peppermint oil:

Sinus Care –Inhaling diffused peppermint oil can unclog your sinuses and offer relief to scratchy throats. I put it in my diffuser.
Freshen up a room and/or closet. Put a few drops on a cotton ball and tuck into a corner of a smelly closet - it will be smelling fresh and clean in no time.

Product Review: 2 in 1] Car Air Humidifier/Diffuser with USB Charger Port

Our Review

Love it. I use diffusers in the house all the time, and was super excited to try the 2-in-1 humidifier/diffuser for the car. To be honest I was a little skeptical, but was quickly proven wrong, and any doubts I had went away within minutes of opening the box. It has a 180 degree rotation, and didn't leak a bit. Once you fill it up and add any essential oils you want, you plug it in, push the on/off button (not really a button, but a spot marked to push), and that's it. Works great! It also has a USB charger port so you can still charge your phone while using it in the car. If you use air fresheners in the car I highly recommend getting rid of them and purchasing the 2-in-1 humidifier/diffuser - you won't be disappointed. I love essential oils and use them in our home on a daily basis. I was asked to give an honest review on the Tea Tree oil by Brooklyn Botany, and was happy to do so as I am always looking to try new brands and explore new ways to use oils.

Tea Tree Oil is also known as Melaleuca oil, and is a natural antibacterial disinfectant. Because of the different properties in Tea Tree oil, you can use it to help cure issues caused from fungus, bacteria and virus'. It is important to note that you should always add to a carrier oil, such as coconut oil, before applying to your skin, especially on children. Failure to do so can cause skin irritation, and even burning.

Here are a few ways I use Tea Tree Oil in our home:

Rashes/Insect bite: Rub on to relieve itchiness.
Dab on small cuts to clean and heal.
Diffuse in diffuser and purify the air with its antiviral, antibacterial and antifungal properties.
Acne: Rub a drop of the tea tree oil onto problem areas 2-3 times per day.
Warts: Apply a drop of diluted tea tree essential oil to the wart several times a day until the wart is gone.
Freshen up laundry: Add a few drops in your washing machine to scent your clothes. Also, scent your dryer balls with tea tree oil.
Freshen up your carpets when you vacuum by placing a drop on a cotton ball and putting in your vacuum bag/container prior to vacuuming.

This is a very small list of ways you can use tea tree oil in your home. If you use essential oils, or want to start using them, Tea Tree Oil is a must-have for your collection. If you are looking to add this brand to your collection I recommend it. It has a nice scent, making it pleasant to diffuse (unlike other oils where you have to use a lot to be able to smell it), and it is a big 1 oz. bottle, which will last a long time giving you a lot of value for your money. Product Review: Prolific Health Fitness Power Flex Yoga Pants

Our Review

I was asked to do a review of these Yoga pants, and I was super excited to give them a try. Unfortunately, they were way too small to even put on. I followed the size chart, and ordered a size small, which is consistent with the size I normally wear. If you order these pants order a size up. The material is soft, but much thicker than I was expecting. The pants are 71% Nylon, 21% Polyester, and 8%. To clean, wash in cold water, and dry on low.

Being they are too small for me I gave the pants to my daughter. She likes them, especially the color, and the softness. If you order the pants just be aware they are thicker than normal yoga pants, and run small. Ordering from Amazon was easy, and shipping was fast.

Our Review

I love choppers; they make cooking in the kitchen a lot easier when you have a lot of chopping to do. This chopper is okay, but not my favorite. It arrives ready to go right out of the box, and it is also super easy to clean. You can had wash it or it can go right into the dishwasher. However, the chopping is a bit inconsistent, and it doesn't do well with peppers, or anything with a skin on it. I have used a high quality chopper in the past, and truthfully, the quality difference is very noticeable. If you are looking for a basic chopper this will do just fine, or if you want to add one to you kitchen gadgets but are not looking to spend a lot of money, this is a good fit. If you have used high quality choppers in the past this may not be a fit for you.

We were asked to review the Avenir Lavender Essential Oil, and were happy to agree. We use essential oils in our home on a daily basis, and I am always looking for quality brands to add to our collection. However, our bottle did leak during shipment so I will need to give an updated review once our new bottle has arrived. What I can tell you is that the oil smelled amazing, and the customer service was great. Upon hearing of the damaged product they were apologetic, and they have a new one being shipped to us. I love great customer service. More to come once we try out our lavender oil.

Product Review: Outdoor Neoprene Lunch Bag

Made of high quality Neoprene material, which is smooth, foamy and water resistant. Neoprene is widely used on the wetsuit to keep a surfer's body temperature stable, just think how the same material will insulate your lunch. It's vinyl-free, PVC-free and well insulated.

This thick and durable neoprene is pretty stretchy so it can expand to accommodate a fair amount of stuff. It has a flat bottom so it can stand up on it's own. And it can also fold and collapse flat for easy storage, won't take space in your cupboard or in your suitcase when empty.

Easy to clean. It's machine washable but we highly recommend you wash it by hand to extend its life span. Hang it up to air dry and it will dry quickly due to the neoprene material. So there's no need to worry about spills.

The sturdy handle is comfortable to carry.The heavy duty zipper close the lunch bag all the way. And the zig-zag stitching really gives this bag the reinforcement to carry heavier items.

Our Review

We took our Neoprene lunch bag to the pool today for the first time. It was quite roomy, fitting 2 small (12 oz.) drinks and 2 (16 oz.) water bottles, along with some snacks. The dimensions are 12 inches wide by 12 inches high. One of the water bottles was frozen and I also added a small ice pack with our food. I really like the size of the bag, the neoprene material, the colors, the fact you can hand wash it as needed and that it stores flat. There are two things I don't really like regarding the bag: 1. It has a "chemical" smell and I had to put it outside to air it out before using. 2. It really didn't keep our food cold in the hot sun like other bags do, even with the ice. I wouldn't place food in it that needs to be cold in the bag, even with an ice pack, if you are outside in the heat. However, it's great for school lunches, drinks, snacks or other food not sensitive to heat. I do recommend the bag (unless you need it to keep food cold), for the current price you are getting a bag that is roomy and looks great. My kids love it, and my first grader is already asking to take it on the first day of school. There are several colors to choose from; I ordered the black and blue bag. We were asked to try the Probiotics for dogs by Paw Choice in exchange for an honest review. I have two dogs, one large and one small, and they both love the probiotics and take them as if they are a treat. They are small in size, duck flavored and semi-crunchy. There is no wheat in the product. The dosage is: 1 a day for under 20 lbs., 2 a day for 20-50 lbs., and 4 a day for over 50 lbs. We weren't given much time to sample the probiotics before having to write our review, so I can't really verify if they actually have the health benefits as claimed. Our Review

I was asked to test the Summates Air Conditioner Cover in exchange for an honest review, and since I love the Summates brand, I was happy to do so. The cover is heavy duty polyester with a vinyl coating. It will keep the snow and leaves off my unit during the Fall and Winter months without any issue. The cover has double stitched seams, along with an air vent system, and also comes with an adjustable cord with a plastic lock to help keep it on the unit. The two-tone beige/brown color looks nice, something I appreciate, especially if your unit is in a visible location. The handles help getting the cover on and off with ease. There are two sizes to choose from, and I would make sure you measure your unit before ordering so you order the correct size. I have several outdoor covers from Summates and this air conditioner cover is top quality, just like the other products I have received. The company offers a one year warranty on the cover as well. I love bamboo washcloths because they are so soft; as you wash them they will continue to get softer with every wash, unlike other material. Our Review

My girls LOVE these gel pens! With 48 colors to choose from what's not to love? I think it's important to note this set is a gel PEN set, not a marker set. They write and color like a pen. I have read a few of the reviews and noticed people complaining about how they color - they do not color like a marker. The pens do bleed a bit, and if you rub you hand over the top of your paper you will smear it a bit or get ink on your skin; but even with my 6 year old this is not much of a problem, just something to be careful of while you are using them. My daughter made two birthday cards today with the pen set and had a blast with all her color choices. The pens are not stored in a box, rather 4 plastic trays. I do like the trays because they fit snug back in their place. The Jewelescent gel ink pens are safe for children to use, as they are non-toxic, and acid-free. Our Review

We were asked to review the Credit Card Protector Sleeve by SefCard in exchange for an honest review.

I love the designs; mine are very bright with fun patterns, making it easy to find them in my wallet. There are many styles to choose from, so finding sleeves to match your personality shouldn't be hard. My cards fit perfectly in the sleeves, however, the cards will not fit into a normal credit card slot, in a wallet, with the protector sleeves on. This really is not a problem for me as I have an open space in my wallet I can place them, but I can see this being a problem for wallets that are more slim. LOVE IT. The cover is a neutral color, and looks really nice on the patio when it is being used, and you can tell by looking at it, that it is well constructed. The canvas material is a thick quality, and I am sure it will last years without fading or cracking. The cover will help protect your patio furniture during the Fall and Winter months from the wind, rain and snow. The cover has a nice feature where you can tighten it around the bottom with the elastic hem cord; This will allow the cover to stay on during wind storms. The handles are nice to help remove the cover when needed. I also like that there is a venting system, this will also help to prevent mold growing on the furniture when it's covered up. Our Review

The phone case is compatible with the iPhone 6 Plus and 6S Plus. The case is a two layer design, that provides shock absorption, and for someone who drops their phone a lot (like me), this is a must. This case has a nice feel, with a good grip - feels pretty good in your hand. The case is easy to put on your phone, although you do have to make sure the rubber isn't covering any of the ports. Because of the design, the thickness of the rubber does add a bit of bulk to the phone, but with the shock absorption material, that isn't a surprise. I like the case, it's nice and offers some protection unlike a lot of cell phone cases on the market. The only think I don't really like it that the material doesn't really allow it to slide in and out of my pocket as easily as I'd like; however that is probably just a personal preference, and nothing against the actual case. I ordered the black case, but there are a lot of color choices. Ordering was easy, and shipping was fast.
